Fried Okra


Ingredients: - 1 lb. of fresh Okra

- 1 cup All Purpose Flour - 1 cup Yellow Corn Meal - Buttermilk - 1 teaspoon Salt - ½ teaspoon Pepper - Canola Oil for frying Directions: 1. Rinse and dry your okra thoroughly. 2. Next cut both ends of the okra off and cut them into 1/2 inch pieces 3. Place cut okra into a large mixing bowl and cover with buttermilk. 4. Allow the okra to soak for at least 5 minutes. 5. While the okra is soaking, pour the canola oil into a skillet. 6. Turn the heat under the skillet to medium/high and allow the oil to get HOT. Around 165 degrees Fahrenheit. 7. In a shallow baking dish, combine the flour, corn meal, salt, and pepper.. Test the oil by placing a wooden spoon handle into the oil, if the oil bubbles your oil is ready.

8. Remove the okra from the buttermilk and place into your breading mixture. Make sure all of the pieces are covered. 9. Shake any excess breading off and CAREFULLY add to the HOT grease. 10. Allow it to fry for 4-5 minutes, until golden brown. 11. After the okra is crispy and brown remove from the grease and place on a paper towel lined baking sheet. Salt immediately.
